Eating with New Dentures

November 22, 2021

Dentures in Marco Island effectively replace missing teeth and rehabilitate their strength, appearance, and function. With incomplete teeth, your ability to chew and bite is affected, making it more difficult than usual to go about normal food consumption. However, you don't have to worry about that anymore since most, if not all, dental clinics offer restorative oral services like dentures.

Unfortunately, it doesn't mean that everything can automatically turn around after getting dentures for yourself. It will take your dentures a few days to adjust and fit your gums like any other procedure. During this time, you must be extra careful with your diet to not impose potential damage to your teeth replacement.

Foods to Eat and Avoid When You Have New Dentures

Soft Foods

When your dentures are still new, you have to let them adjust to their position. At this time, your gums may be sore as well from any procedure you had to undergo to remove damaged or broken teeth. To aid in the healing process, dentists recommend you consume soft foods:

  • Hot cereals
  • Broth
  • Pudding
  • Gelatin dessert
  • Mashed potatoes or any other vegetables
  • Juice
  • Yogurt

Solid Foods

After days have passed and your gums have healed, you may now take solid foods. The past days should also be enough to allow the dentures to fit properly to your mouth. However, while solid foods may be allowed during this time, you still have to be careful.

It would also be best if you cut them into smaller pieces for easier chewing. These solid foods may include:

  • Cooked rice
  • Pasta
  • Soft bread
  • Soup
  • Cooked greens
  • Soft, skin-free fish
