What NOT to Do During These Common Dental Emergencies

December 19, 2022

Dental crises usually occur when you least expect them. Knowing what not to do before getting emergency dental care in Marco Island is crucial if you’ve been hurt or one of your teeth has been damaged. Here we have a reference guide with the most frequent dental emergencies to help you avoid some typical blunders that patients make when facing them.

What You Shouldn't Do When Dealing with Common Dental Emergencies

Broken or Lost Tooth

What you don't do is just as important as what you do while trying to save a knocked-out tooth. Remember to avoid touching the tooth's roots because doing so could permanently harm the root cells.

A knocked-out tooth should never be covered in fabric or tissue, wiped with soap or chemicals, or submerged in tap water. In order to replant a knocked-out tooth, you must visit the clinic quickly. Try carring it in a glass of milk or insert it into its original spot.

Lost Veneer, Crown, or Filling

Even if losing a restoration doesn’t hurt, you cannot postpone getting attention. Your tooth is now more susceptible to tooth decay without its protective coating. Additionally, it's crucial to keep in mind that, despite the fact that dental cement can sometimes actually bridge the gap while you wait for your appointment, it will never be a suitable substitute for prompt professional care.

Tooth Pain

In relation to over-the-counter painkillers, avoid using aspirin when selecting one to take for dental pain. Aspirin thins the blood, which makes it more difficult for bleeding to stop if you already are.

Even if you aren't bleeding, taking aspirin is not a good idea since it may induce bleeding when you visit our clinic for emergency care, and we want to make sure your blood can clot rapidly following dental surgery. Pick Tylenol if your discomfort is severe enough to require medication (acetaminophen).
