What to Do After a Dental Restoration

December 7, 2021

Dental restorations are necessary to repair or replace missing and damaged teeth and prevent any pain from happening in the future. There are many ways this can be achieved, including getting dental implants in Marco Island.

This article will talk about what you should do following the procedure. Remember that proper aftercare can expedite the healing process and relieve you of discomfort after dental restorations.

Types of Dental Restorations and Aftercare Tips

Root Canal Therapy

Refrain from consuming any food at least until the anesthesia wears off. Moreover, it would be best to refrain from eating hard foods as this can damage the filling.

Dental Crowns or Bridges

Wait for at least one hour after your new crown or bridge is cemented into place before eating. It allows enough time for these dental appliances to settle in your mouth. You must avoid eating sticky foods for a few hours as they can dislodge your dental crown and move it from its correct position.

Follow your dentist's recommendation about when you can resume normal toothbrushing and flossing.

Dentures

After your dentures are put into place, refrain from removing them until the following morning. Doing so increases the risk of swelling, and when this happens without the dentures on, it can be challenging to return them to their proper place.

After, you can rinse the dentures with cold water and brush their surfaces with a denture brush. Carefully set the dentures aside and rinse your mouth with warm saltwater. After which, you can wear your dentures again and clean the rest of your teeth as you normally would.

Dental Implants

After your dental implant procedure, do not eat until the anesthesia wears off. You must also avoid hot food or drinks for the first day. As much as possible, try not to touch the area with your tongue or finger, and refrain from doing rigorous activities for the next 48 hours.

However, the aftercare tips compiled above are the general recommendations of dentists all over the country. Because each dental issue and treatment is unique, you may want to listen and strictly follow your dentist’s advice to prevent any incidents from happening. Besides, your dentist is the one who knows more about your oral health.
